What is Reiki?

Reiki [pronounced ray-key] comes from two Japanese words – Rei and Ki, and means “spiritually guided life-force energy.” It is a Japanese method of healing for stress reduction, energy renewal and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki was developed through in the early 1900’s by Mikao Usui in Japan.

Reiki energy is transferred through the light touch of the practitioner to create harmony and balance within the body, mind and spirit. Reiki unlocks and increases inner flow of this energy to the body, restoring and balancing the body’s energy, and enhances the body’s natural healing processes so that the body can heal itself.

There has been a shift in the healthcare industry towards more holistic types of treatment. Reiki is now practiced in thousands of large hospitals around the world as a complementary treatment to help with pain, fatigue, anxiety, preoperative preparation and postoperative recovery, and with the side effects of chemotherapy.

Reiki is a safe, non-invasive, gentle yet powerful method of healing and adjusts to the need of the recipient, promoting balance and wholeness. It supports your body's natural ability to heal itself and can be used for maintaining wellbeing or helping the healing process.

Reiki is completely safe and will complement other healing methods, medical treatment or medication. However, it is NOT a substitute for appropriate medical care.

What’s a typical Reiki session like?
A Reiki treatment is non-invasive and completely painless. During the session, you remain fully clothed and will be asked to lie on a massage table. The practitioner works progressively around the body, holding points and/or working off the body. The treatment lasts approximately one hour. You may feel a sensation of warmth or vibration from the practitioner's hands. Clients have described Reiki treatments as deeply relaxing and often fall asleep.

How often can I receive Reiki?
There is no limit to the number of Reiki sessions you may have. You cannot receive too much Reiki energy because your body only absorbs the healing energy it needs. Weekly visits are common. However, for chronic or problematic conditions, three sessions over three days are done for optimal healing affect. If you wish, a customized plan can be discussed after the initial session. Also, try a Reiki package to train your body and mind to release tension and cultivate a deep state of vitality to fuel your life. At each session, we create deep relaxation on physical, emotional and mental levels, and we train your body to relax deeply and rejuvenate on cue.
